The 1863 Liberty Quarter Eagle (Buy on eBay) is a rare and desirable proof-only issue struck at the Philadelphia Mint. From the original mintage of 30 pieces, an estimated 15 to 20 pieces are still believed to exist across all grades. This is the most difficult coin that was struck in the American Civil War, and the key to a Civil War dated set.
The finest known examples of the 1863 Proof Liberty Quarter Eagle are two pieces graded NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo. One of these sold for $195,500 in 2012. More recently an example graded PCGS PR-65+ DCAM sold for $270,250 in 2020.
